 Caen is a French city in the Normandy region. It is also known as the "City of William the Conqueror", due to William's particular appeal for the town. In fact, he built a castle and two abbeys here. These are the Abbaye aux hommes (Men's abbey) and the Abbaye aux dames (Women's Abbey). Caen offers a remarkably rich architectural heritage. It's also a lively, bustling metropolis located 2 hours from Paris and just 10 minutes drive to the coast. In Caen, houses are built of stone, but you will find as well ancient monuments in the old town as very modern buildings made of glass at the "Presqu'île de Caen".
